Getting Started with Belay
You can integrate Belay's policy solution with a handful of API integrations onto your Alpaca or DriveWealth-powered brokerage.
Security
Alpaca and DriveWealth provide most of the data and functionality needed for integration. But sharing your credentials with us directly is inadvisable. So we offer proxies that run in your environment that:
- grant us read only access to users and holdings for our regulatory obligations
- allow us to send and receive payments to customer accounts automatically (configurable)
Integration Overview
There are just 4 primary activities required for a successful integration with Belay, and each are outlined below:
1. Viewing Available Policies
Belay needs to access the user's details to see if it is legal for us to offer insurance in their location. It is expected that you will subscribe and unsubscribe to policy options via a websocket endpoint we provide.
2 Buying a Policy
Note: It is expected that we will maintain an account in your brokerage through which we will accept policy premiums, and distribute policy claims.
Belay must access the customer's holdings, because we can only insure shares the customer owns. Once validated, we'll request payment for the policy. Once you transfer that money to us the policy will be activated
3. Exercising Policies

Belay needs real time access to all policy holders' transactions, so that we can process claims immediately. Once received, if it is determined that we own the policy holder money, we will transfer that money from our account to theirs, and offer you a notification of the event.
4. Showing Policies
We will also offer a RESTful endpoint to pull either all of the user's policies, or all of their active policies.
